Aeroports de Paris subsidiary ADPI won a contract to implement a new development plan for Bahrain Airport, which seeks to integrate the short- and medium-term need to increase passenger capacity into a longer-term vision for expansion, more particularly the development of an "airport city." Bahrain handled more than 9 million passengers in 2009. Given the expected growth in traffic, the airport authority published a call for tenders for implementation of a new airport development plan.
